WGBH prepping for debut of 'High School Quiz Show'

Boston's WGBH is planning to debut an academic quiz show featuring local high school students. The first season of the program, High School Quiz Show, will feature teams from 24 Massachusetts schools who compete against each other in a "fast-paced question and answer format, both as teams and in head-to-head lightning rounds," according to WBGH. The program is slated to premiere in March.

According to information on the program's Facebook page, questions are drawn from the core Massachusetts high school curriculum, including literature, history and science, together with current events, sports, entertainment, and general knowledge. The competition will culminate in a statewide playoff for the championship and four teams from WGBY's academic game program, As Schools Match Wits, will eventually come to WGBH studios to compete with High School Quiz Show's four top qualifying teams, according to a release from WGBH officials. WGBY is the PBS affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The show began production in November. Student teams from around Massachusetts have been taping their shows over the last few months. Production support for the program is provided by the University of Massachusetts.

Participating schools are: Amesbury High, Boston Collegiate Charter, Brighton High, Bromfield, Dighton-Rehobeth Regional High, Everett High, Framingham High, Hingham High, Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High, Lynn English High, Methuen High, Minuteman Career and Technical High, Nipmuc Regional High, Oakmont Regional High, Randolph High, Revere High, Quincy High, Shepherd Hill Regional High, Sturgis Charter Public, and University Park Campus.
