WGA Awards 2012: NBC's 'Community' star Joel McHale, Zooey Deschanel to host

Joel McHale is getting back into the awards-show business one year after taking on the Independent Spirit Awards. In a new statement Wednesday, it was announced that the "Community" star would be joining "New Girl's" Zooey Deschanel as a host for the 2012 Writers Guild of America Awards on February 19 (one week before the Oscars).

Of course, McHale managed to take jabs while being sincere at the same time during his announcement:

“I’m deeply excited to co-host the WGA Awards with Zooey Deschanel. She has that rare combination in that she’s beautiful, funny, and smells good. Without writers, movies and TV would be worse than untreated syphilis, so I’m thrilled to hand these fine people awards for their great work."

Ultimately, it seems appropriate that Joel and Zooey get to hand out trophies, since their two shows may be the best examples of fine comedy writing currently on network TV.
