The WFTDA is restructuring their member leagues this year to determine Regional playoff tournament participants. The WFTDA Competitive Divisions will organize leagues by rankings as opposed to the previous structure of geographic regions. The divisions will be determined by a mathematically driven formula via the newly created WFTDA Rankings Calculator. One of the primary reasons for the implementation of divisions within the Association is to create matchups between teams that are of more comparable skill level during playoffs prior to Championships. Three divisions are set once a year. Division 1 is made up of the top forty ranked WFTDA charter teams in the Association. Division 2 is comprised of charter teams ranked forty one through sixty in the WFTDA. Division 3 includes seventy two charter leagues plus new member leagues ranked from 101 on. Team rankings can change over the competitive season, but a teams’ division status will remain the same for the entire year. Division placement for 2013 is based on June 30, 2012 rankings for the former WFTDA geographic regions. At that time, the Dutchland Derby Rollers were ranked 9th in the former WFTDA East region and are currently classified as a Division 1 league. With the WFTDA Competitive Divisions officially in place, Regional playoffs and Championship matchups this year are sure to be some of the best and brutal in flat track roller derby.
