WFP to host Google Hangout on Syrian crisis (Photos)

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) will host a Google+ Hangout live from Syria on Friday, February 1st. The event will begin at 12 eastern US time.

WFP representative Abeer Etefa will host the event after having spent a week traveling the country assessing the humanitarian situation. Currently, WFP is feeding 1.5 million war victims inside Syria and hundreds of thousands of others who have fled the country.

WFP has plans to increase its food aid coverage to 2.5 million Syrians in the coming weeks. Funding is a huge crisis for WFP as it depends on voluntary donations from governments and the public.

President Obama just announced donations to Syria but it is not clear yet how much of this will go toward food assistance. WFP also has a relief fund for Syria where you can donate.

The event will be broadcast live on WFP's Google+ Page and on YouTube. Viewers can submit questions during the event to Abeer and the other participants using Google+ or Twitter using the hashtag #wfpsyria.
