On Tuesday, January 28th, WALA-TV used the main broadcast channel for their companion station* WFNA-TV (radio frequency channel 25-1/virtual channel 55-1) to broadcast more special programming about frozen precipitation in their broadcast areas between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (after having done so continuously through their own broadcast channel since 4:00 p.m) due to their plan to use their own broadcast channel (radio frequency channel 9-1/virtual channel 10) to broadcast live network programming about the State of the Union Address for 2014 from the FOX Broadcasting Company during the same time period.

WFNA-TV was still able to broadcast the newest episode of the dramatic network program "Supernatural" that night in spite of the special programming being broadcast in the time period it was originally assigned by recording it from the live network feed for the CW Television Network during that time period and broadcasting it later that night during the time period they normally used for broadcasting a syndicated episode of the dramatic program "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" from Monday through Friday (9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.).

*WALA-TV and WFNA-TV are members of the same company, LIN Media. They also operate in the same building in Mobile
