Single parents - there is now a drop in childcare just for you! I had the pleasure of meeting Karen Beninati, founder of WeVillage, at KidFest. As a single Portland mom, she created this service for parents like her! Last weekend I toured WeVillage, which is conveniently located in the heart of the Pearl district, and have asked Karen to give us a few more details about this fabulous service she is providing. (Married parents are welcome to utilize WeVillage too, just to be clear!)
Brooke -What is WeVillage?
Karen - WeVillage is a Drop N Go Childcare! We are set up to meet the needs of busy parents who need flexible care in the day and evening. We also provide preschool, summer camp, and very, very cool and affordable birthday parties. We are looking into expanding our offerings at WeVillage to classes!
Brooke -Why did you create WeVillage?
Karen - Because I wanted to have a safe, beautiful, urban place for children to go to when I needed some me time!
Brooke - As a single parent yourself, how did you incorporate services that you would want into your business?
Karen - I just knew what I needed as a single mother with no family who is very busy.
Brooke - What sets WeVillage apart from the typical daycare?
Karen - We are not typical by any means! We allow the child to direct the activities; nothing is forced! We use our surrounding area as we have so much to see and do using the Pearl as a playground - utilizing the parks, walk abouts, good food and activities. Check out our summer camp programs!
Brooke - What else should single parents know about WeVillage?
Karen - We are totally here to support all parents especially single ones and will do anything we can to accommodate! Oh - and we will be expanding shortly!
WeVillage has summer hours, where they are open until 10pm every night of the week except for weekends when they are open until midnight which is great if you want an evening out but lack the childcare. WeVillage will also be doing summer camps that are drop in designed as well! Check their website often for specials and for the online reservation system that is coming soon.
