Wet weather pattern develops

Front boundary to stall across Northern Mississippi over the next week

After a mostly sunny and dry week across the state, a weather pattern change is evolving.

A cold front is expected to push into Northern Mississippi and stall, due to a high pressure area that will build across the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days.

This will block the front from making further progress through the state, which will result and or lead to periods of rain and thunderstorms through the week.

(Upper Level Disturbances will ride along the southward digging jetstream to help initiate showers and thunderstorms along the stalled out frontal boundary.)

Some areas will likely receive several inches of rainfall by this upcoming weekend.

The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center, which  provides outlooks for precipitation through five days across the U.S. is indicating, parts of the state could recieve 3-5 inches of rainfall by the weekend.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATEMENT:

THERE WILL BE A RISK FOR HEAVY RAINFALL DURING THE WEEK AHEAD WITH SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN BECOMING LIKELY...ESPECIALLY NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE TWENTY CORRIDOR WHERE A FRONTAL SYSTEM STALLS OVER THE REGION.

This will be much needed rainfall across the state considering, more than 55% of the state is under drought conditions, with rainfall deficits for the year surpassing 8 inches in some locations.

Today is just the beginning of this wet weather pattern.
