The Western Oklahoma Writers meet this Thursday at 8:00 pm at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. This is a onetime change to the second Thursday of the month.
Writers published, unpublished, or somewhere in between are invited to come and discuss what they are working on or thinking about.
The February poetry contest will also be discussed.

The Western Oklahoma Writers take great pleasure to announce the A TEEN’S LIFE IN WASHITA COUNTY poetry contest.
Prizes include cash, products and services from local merchants, publication in the Washita County Poetry Anthology, and a copy of the Washita County Poetry Anthology once published.
First prize is $50. Second and third will be awarded $25 each. All entries are eligible for publication.
Some classes in some schools may award extra credit for participating. Students should consult their teachers about local awards and credits.
This contest is for high school seniors and juniors only. Entrants must currently attend one of the Washita County Schools. To be eligible for prizes and publication, the poem must address life in Washita County in any poetic form.
Entries must be at least 8 and no fewer than 25 lines and submitted via email no later than 5:00 pm on 14 February 2012. Entries must be emailed to tomspence0302@gmail.com with the words WASHITA COUNTY POETRY CONTEST in the subject line.
Only 1 entry per person is allowed.
There is no entry fee.
For entrants 17 and younger, the entry must also include the following statement:
MY PARENTS HAVE CONSENTED TO MY ENTRY BEING PUBLISHED ONLINE AND IN PRINT.
Entries must contain the full name, designation of either junior or senior, high school currently attending, and mailing address to be eligible to win.
Entries will be judged on originality, grammar and syntax (with much poetic license applied), and impact upon the judges.
Entrants are encouraged to speak from the heart about their life experiences in this part of western Oklahoma.
