Is there a need for a separate facebook group for the part of Massachusetts that lies west of Route 495? The question of need is subjective. There are filmmakers out there and they are surviving. Maybe want is more accurate, but we certainly could use one.
The Boston Film Industry Examiner has given this thought before, but while covering the Scared Stiff Horror Film Festival in the Western Mass town of Three Rivers, the “question of “need” came to the fore. We were recording a video of Lindsay ad Manny Serrano and Louie Cortes. They are the team behind blood Slaughter Massacre which one the grand prize. The conversation led to a discussion of making indie movies in the Big Apple. What they have that we do not have is a close community. Everyone knows everyone else and they conveniently call on each other for support.
There are organic reasons for this. NYC is a large city but geographically it is much more compact than Western Mass. We could use something, anything.
Keep in mind, a facebook page is no panacea. It is just an idea that may help us connect with each other.
If you live in the region and have an interest in film please go to the facebook page and join the group. Heck, if you don’t live in our region, but have an interest in movies, feel free to be part of it. Certainly, all screenwriters and directors, Pas, Producers and actors and any other talent and crew are welcome.
It may not be the complete answer, but it’s a start.
The facebook page link is Western Mass Cinema Community.
