Westboro Baptist Church members are used to picketing and picking on everyone and everything, but over the weekend, Westboro Baptist Church protesters got picked on themselves for a change; and by none other than country singer Vince Gill. “Country singer Vince Gill faced off with protesters from the conservative Westboro Baptist Church over the weekend outside his concert in Kansas City, Mo.," reported the Los Angeles Times on Sept. 11, 2013.
When Westboro Baptist Church protesters were doing what they like to do, picket in front of a concert, little did they expect that the object of their protest, Vince Gill, would actually turn on them and give them a bit of their own medicine - pick on them.
While passing the Westboro Church protesters on Sunday at the Kauffman Center, Vince Gill addressed the protesters and told them, “I wanted to see what hate looks like. I really wanted to see what hate looks like.”
Leaving his southern hospitality behind, 56-year-old Vince Gill was not deterred by the Westboro Baptist Church members’ accusations about being an “adulterer” for being married to “another man’s wife.”
During the short video clip of the Westboro Church members face-off with Vince Gill, one of the female Westboro Church protesters asks Vince Gill if he didn’t know that Jesus says that he is only supposed to have one wife.
Instead of defending himself, Vince Gill tells the WBC protester about Jesus’ love and power of forgiveness; something Westboro Church members seem to know very little about.
“He also said a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys don’t have any of that.”
And "to pick" on the Westboro Baptist Church protesters just a bit more, Vince Gill asked the Westboro Baptist Church protesters if any of them were members of the family of Westboro Baptist Church pastor Fred Phelps who led his WBC followers in controversial protests at military funerals, gay weddings and other events.
“Are any of you guys Phelpses?” Vince Gill asked the Westboro Baptist Church protesters . “Or are you guys like the C team?”
