Lauren Drain, a former member of the Westboro Baptist Church that escaped from the cult, believes she knows why it's founder and pastor, Fred Phelps, hates homosexuals and the military. In a March 14 report by Gay Star News, Lauren Drain explains she believes that Fred Phelps had a homosexual encounter while he was at West Point.
Although Lauren Drain doesn't go into specific details about the type of homosexual encounter the Fred Phelps had, it is possible he was raped by a man at West Point. It is also possible that Fred Phelps fell in love with a man and his affections were not returned. No matter the nature of the alleged homosexual encounter, it could explain the hatred Fred Phelps feels towards homosexuality and the military.
“If [Fred] Phelps was raped, that would explain why he does the things he does,” Deborah Mills, from Oklahoma City, said. “I always wondered what happened in his past to damage him the way is obviously damaged. Being raped could be what happened.”
Laura Drain explained that Fred Phelps wanted to go into the military. Shortly after arriving at West Point, he left. After that, he decided to change his life's direction. That is when he became a pastor and started preaching and teaching against homosexuality and the military.
“There is a thin line between love and hate,” Mills continued. “Perhaps [Fred] Phelps fell in love with a man at West Point. That would explain a lot of things.”
Fred Phelps is the only person who can explain why he hates homosexuals and the military. It remains a mystery as to whether or not Fred Phelps had a homosexual encounter at West Point. It is possible he fell in love with a man. It is also possible that Fred Phelps was raped by a man at West Point.
