Students at Vassar College is raising funds in a peaceful protest against the Westboro Baptist Church. According to the Towleroad, in a report dated, Feb. 13, the students at Vassar are wanting to raise $100 per minute the Westboro Baptist Church protests on their campus on Feb. 28.
The funds raised by the Vassar students will be donated to The Trevor Project. It is a LGBT suicide and crisis intervention organization. They help the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender population in times of crisis.
The Vassar students hoped to raise at least $4,500 in peace protest. That equals $100 for each minute the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest on the Vassar campus. The Vassar students have raised almost ten times that amount. At the time of publication, they had raised over $43,000.
In addition to the fundraiser for The Trevor Project, the students have mobilized and will counter the Westboro Baptist Church's protest on Feb. 28.
It is unknown if the Westboro Baptist Church will actually protest at Vassar College. The Phelps family, which is the majority of the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, often threaten to protest and picket, but never show up.
