The Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket Barack Obama's Inauguration. Margie Phelps, a spokesperson for the Westboro Baptist Church and the founder's daughter, made the announcement on Twitter on Jan. 12.
“WBC to picket Inauguration of Beast Obama (aka f*g enable [and] baby killer) on [Sunday], Jan. 21,” Margie Phelps tweeted.
The Westboro Baptist Church is group made up mostly of members of the Fred Phelps family. Fred Phelps is the founder the group who has made themselves famous by picketing and protesting funerals all over the country. The Westboro Baptist Church earns most of its income through lawsuits, suing those who oppose them. Many of the Phelps family members, including Fred Phelps, are disbarred attorneys.
There is currently a petition at We The People, petitioning the government to classify the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. It is the most popular of all petitions on the website. It has more signatures than any other petition.
At the time of publication, it was unknown if the Westboro Baptist Church will actually picket Barack Obama's Inauguration. They often threaten to picket, but do not show up. Many times they will be present, but never get out of their vehicles because of the opposition they face.
