Westboro Baptist Church tells members to 'pray for people to die' (Video)

A former Westboro Baptist Church member claims the church told their members to “pray for people to die.” Even more shocking is the identity of the former member, Libby Phelps Alvarez revealed the surprising claim and is the granddaughter of the church’s founder Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr.

Alvarez fled the controversial church in 2009. Libby Alvarez told her story to the Kansas City Star where she admitted she had “struggled without the lifestyle” because it was what she’d known her entire life.

“That first year, there would be days it would hit me really hard”, Alvarez said.

The Westboro Baptist Church is well known for picketing funerals of military men and women, holding protests against the homosexual community and most recently for threatening to picket the funerals of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting.

After fleeing the organization, The Buzz asked her what was the craziest thing she had been forced to do by the church. Libby Alvarez responded, “To pray for people to die.”

Even though she misses her mother, Alvarez said she’s happy she left the church. While out shopping one day, Libby met Logan Alvarez. Logan was a member of the Westboro Baptist Church.

After dating Libby Alvarez for four months, Logan Alvarez left the church as well. He proposed to Libby and they are now happily married.
