Westboro Baptist Church has already set the wheels in motion to protest at President Obama's second inauguration Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C., Huffington Post reports Tuesday. According to the report, the controversial group got a permit to picket along Pennsylvania Avenue at the north sidewalk from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday...this confirmed by the National Park Service.
The venomous church organization hit a new low when they threatened to protest at the Connecticut funerals of Sandy Hook shooting victims in December. Fortunately they didn't appear there -- nor at the services of Reddit co-founder, Aaron Swartz.
Westboro has protested against Obama before, however. In 2009 members of the Topeka-based group picketed outside the school his daughters, Sasha and Malia, attended. They posted on the Westboro Baptist Church website that they were "satanic spawns" of a "murderous bastard."
319,000 signatures have been obtained on a petition against Westboro. They represent a hate group rather than a religious one -- referred to on We The People as Calvinist extremists.
Westboro Baptist Church may protest at Obama's inauguration since they haven't followed through on the last two threats. It may feel like a "safer" environment for them to demonstrate.
