Lauren Drain, a former member of the Westboro Baptist Church who escaped, has come forward with some bold speculations about the founder and pastor of the cult, Fred Phelps. In a March 14 report by Pink News, Lauren Drain admitted she wonders if Fred Phelps is gay.
Lauren Drain explained during an interview that Fred Phelps had wanted to be part of the military. He went to West Point, but was only there a short time. After leaving West Point, Fred Phelps choose a completely different path for his life. That was when he founded the Westboro Baptist Church and started his campaign of hate against homosexuals and the military.
Lauren Drain thinks that Fred Phelps had a homosexual encounter while at West Point. This could explain his hatred towards homosexuals and the military. This is especially true if Fred Phelps had fallen in love with a man during his time at West Point and his affections were not returned.
Of course, it is also possible that Fred Phelps was raped while at West Point. This would also explain his extreme hatred for homosexuals and the military.
Lauren Drain also thinks it is possible that Fred Phelps is gay. She believes that his hatred for homosexuals is fueled by something other than just his theory of what the Bible teaches on homosexuality.
