WWL-TV is reporting that two people were shot earlier today near the route of the Martin Luther King, Jr. parade on the Westbank. Around 2:15 p.m., Jefferson Parish authorities received reports of gunfire near the Westbank Expressway and Ames Boulevard. A short time later, additional gunfire was reported in the 500 block of Ames Boulevard, not far from where gunfire was first reported.
Two teenagers were injured in the shooting, a fourteen year old boy who was shot in the leg and a nineteen year old man who suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and body. A suspect was apprehended while in possession of a .45 caliber handgun. The bullets from the handgun reportedly match the casings found by investigators.
No motive has been discovered and police are not certain if the two shootings are related.
