Grand opening of West Marine store in Marathon Florida Keys
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (November 18, 2009) - West Marine, the largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories, announced the grand opening celebration of its newest store in Marathon, Florida on December 5-6, 2009. Doors open at 8am on Saturday and the celebration continues all weekend with extraordinary discounts, great gifts and prize give-a-ways including $100 West Marine gift card, Garmin nuvi 200W and more.
The brand new store is situated at 2019 Overseas Highway, right next door to the old location. With 10,000 square feet, it’s twice the size of the original store, making it the largest West Marine in Middle and Lower Keys. Offering an expanded selection of electronics, fishing, sailing and safety gear, this Marathon store is sure to delight any angler, boater, sailor or outdoor enthusiast.
Experienced associates to offer boating and fishing product advice
The new Marathon West Marine employs more than 18 Associates who have over 160 years of boating and fishing experience. Store Manager Lake High brings more than 16 years of experience and has been working for West Marine since he docked his cruising sailboat in Key West in 2005. “West Marine is dedicated to giving boaters the products they need for a great day out on the water. We’ve listened to Customer feedback and as a result we’ve increased our assortment of fishing equipment and electronics in our new Marathon store,” said High.
National marine product representatives on site
Local boat dealers and marine experts will be on site and the Raymarine Mobile Showroom will demonstrate cutting edge electronics for your boat. Plus representatives from SPOT, ICOM, Navionics, Marathon Boat Yard, S.A.L.T. (Sea Air Land Technologies) and Seamark electronics will be available to answer your boating questions.
Five percent of sales to be donated to Marathon's Turtle Hospital
On Saturday, December 5, 2009 five percent of sales will be donated to the Turtle Hospital, a non-profit organization that has successfully treated and released over 1000 sea turtles since its inception. In keeping with West Marine’s mission to support the community and the marine environment, it’s proud to support Marathon’s Sea Turtle Hospital. Hospital representatives will be at the grand opening to help wrap presents for holiday shoppers.

About the Turtle Hospital
The Turtle Hospital was the first state certified veterinary hospital for sea turtles in the world, and since it's inception in 1986, they have successfully treated and released over 1,000 of these endangered animals back into the wild. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, The Turtle Hospital relies on donations for food, medical supplies and equipment to continue caring tor for sick and injured sea turtles. The Turtle Hospital has four main goals: 1) rehabilitation and release of injured sea turtles, 2) educating the public through outreach programs to local schools, 3) conduct and assist with research which aids the sea turtles (in conjunction with state universities), and 4) work toward environmental legislation which makes the beaches and water safe and clean for sea turtles.
