West L.A. vets mobilize to help homebound pets

Pet owners who live in the western chunk of Los Angeles no longer have an excuse for not making certain their furry friends receive proper medical care.

That's because one of the more established and respectable veterinarians in the area has recently launched a mobile pet service designed to keep homebound cats and dogs healthy.

Vet2uLA, a convenient system that combines traditional home visits with contemporary technology, allows pets and service animals to receive full medical exams and required vaccinations within their own home environment.

Operated by Dr. Karen Heard, a physician who has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than three decades, Vet2uLA also comes to the rescue of pets recovering from illnesses, surgeries or have been injured in an unfortunate accident or mishap.

"If careful evaluation determines that hospitalization or more extensive diagnostic tests are required, we work with hospitals and clinics in the area to provide the inpatient services that you need," stated Dr. Heard. "Our house call vet can also arrange to transport your pet to the facility near you."

Mar Vista resident Mary Smale said Dr. Heard's house-call service promises to benefit those whose pet care responsibilities may have been jeopardized by all sorts of factors and circumstances.

"Ever since my back surgery, I've been unable to lift my senior dog who no longer walks because of severe arthritis," said Smale. "Now that my neighborhood has a vet willing to come to my home, I don't have to worry about how I'm going to get 'Popeye' to the clinic for his routine checkups."

Vet2uLA also provides hospice care for those pets that are aged or suffering from debilitating conditions.
