Wow! We did it! Under a beautiful 25 degree sky, the 11th annual West Island Crusade against Cancer (WICAC) came to a close by the parking lot of The Baie d’Urfe Curling Club this past Saturday July 5, 2014.
There are so many people to thank in bringing an event of this magnitude to the forefront.
We begin by thanking Caroline Kronlov, Nikki Cardinal, and The Running Room Pointe-Claire for supporting the event.
The Town of Baie d’Urfe was extraordinary as they hosted and allowed us to use their town and their facilities as we desired.
Francis Deroo at the Provigo Baie d’Urfe requires a big hand for providing all the drinks and the hot dogs for all of us to enjoy.
Ken Forse, and The Baie d’Urfe Citizens Association in helping of promotion through the monthly News and Views magazine.
A big round of applause to Mayor Maria Tutino who displayed her town pride by starting both the 10k and 5k runs and setting the 1k kids walk in motion.
Kevin Raftery, as our chosen photographer, who was right at home in the thick of the action clicking 1,300 + pictures.
George Durocher and the men from The Baie d’Urfe Rescue squad who provided the presence required in organizing such a public event.
Brian Ross, and the volunteers of the VCops public security team which ensured a safe and problem free morning.
Monique Lacombe, and the CBC Do Crew who were present, in force and allowed us to show what we are all about with our charity. Thank-you Monique, your presence was greatly appreciated.
Jennifer Pryce, our aerobic instructor who showed pure professionalism under the circumstances. We thank Jen for answering the call.
Greg Niggemann, and Rolling Tunes DJ’s who provided the sound system throughout the morning.
To Patricia McDonald, and Doug Martin from the Curling Club who allowed us the use of the industrial bbq for us to utilize.
Robert Reside needs a big thank-you as he lent us his culinary talents in cooking up the hot dogs for the people to enjoy.
Anne-Marie Legault, our Race Director who was absolute Dynamite from A-Z! We could not have done it without you.
Bob Souch, and Karen Wright for all their collaboration from start to finish. Your passion resonates all over, and we are proud to have you.
A standing ovation to all our volunteers, our most cherished resource. Your involvement allows us to put together such a day, and we thank-you, and Team WICAC thanks you sincerely for your efforts.
Most important of all, is thanking-you to all of our participants for your support of this event. We are honored that you chose to take part in our fun run, and your presence really hits home.
Your involvement allows WICAC to support fully, NOVA West Island’s Carousel program, a child bereavement camp for children between the ages of four-17 years which have been touched with some form of cancer in their lives.
WICAC also supports a portion of The West Island Palliative Care Centre’s food budget, where up to 20,000 meals are served on an annual basis.
On behalf of all of us at WICAC-a job well done! We look forward to seeing you next year.
