Instead of worrying if your baseball team will win its next game or how your team’s participant will do in the All Star Game at Angel Stadium July 13, take in the “Vintage Base Ball World Series” in Southern Indiana, July 10-11.
The series features six games on Saturday and playoffs on Sunday. The place is a former Cubs Training site next to the West Baden Springs Hotel, a sister property to the French Lick Springs Resort.
What you’ll see Members of the St. Louis Unions, Indianapolis Blues, Cincinnati Buckeyes, Batesville Lumbermen, Indiana Hoosiers and Rising Sun Belle Rivers playing base ball (two words, back then) in vintage uniforms according to 1864 rules. Pitching will be underhand.
Getaway Turn the excursion into a vacation by adding golf or a massage in a place visited by entertainers and other celebs such as Al Capone, Cole Porter, Louie Armstrong and Steve Allen.
After a recent 500 million dollar renovation, the resorts of West Baden Springs and French Lick Springs are a gleaming tribute to their historic architecture and gardens. But the update also added a Pete Dye course to a score card that already had a 1917 Donald Ross course, a 51,000 square foot casino attached to French Lick and two full service spas.

I would have never known there were resorts like this in either place!
WOW! I thought for sure this resort was in Europe. This is someplace I should see!
What a gorgeous building.
French Lick is in my neck of the woods - the beautiful hills of Southern Indiana! French Lick and West Baden are destinations worth the drive from anywhere in the mid-west.
Pretty fancy building.
This is in my old home territory... as I lived in Evansville, Indiana, most of my life. I stayed at the French Lick Springs Hotel way back...about 20 years ago or more. Have not seen the restored West Baden Springs Hotel but have heard it is just amazing! In the winter, there is also a ski resort nearby (Paoli Peaks), so this is a great area for a weekend visit anytime of year.
Never heard of West Baden but it looks wonderful. Love old hotels.
Cub fans can go back to the time they last won a world series.
