The Davidson Art Gallery photo exhibit Reviewing Bodies runs until March 7th. It has images by several famous photographers of people and the human body in motion. It depicts images of performance artists like dancers and actors. It shows men and women in physical occupations like construction workers at work. It was organized by students in the Art History 360 course Museum Studies taught by center curator Claire Rogan.
Some of the photos are of Harlem performance artists, flamingo dances and graphic images of soldiers at war. There are two men dancing at a drag ball by photographer Diane Arbus. The exhibit is appropriate for college students and adults. There are sexual images of men and women and human body parts.
The photographers are Diane Arbus, Larry Burrows, Harry Callahan, Judy Dater, Gordon Parks, and Jerry Uelsmann. The are all 20th century American photographers the depict unique perspectives on people. Each photographer has an description and explanations near the photographs of the message they are trying to convey with their work.
The exhibit is free and the museum is open Tuesday thru Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. It is located at 301 High Street, Middletown, CT. Call 860-685-2500 for more information.
