Nostalgia is often a bittersweet sensation, but Wendy’s is embracing it in full force by enlisting Boyz II Men’s beautiful harmonies to celebrate the return of its beloved pretzel bun. It’s a match made in cheesy heaven: anybody who existed in the 90’s understands the power of the slow jam, and anybody who’s eaten a pretzel bun understands that all buns really should be pretzel buns. This bizarre, yet deeply satisfying collaboration manifests itself in the form of user-submitted lyrics submitted via the #PretzelLoveSongs hashtag along with a video series of long songs on Vevo that feature fans’ tweets.
On Wednesday, Wendy’s sponsored an unusual karaoke event in Times Square, encouraging fans to create their own music video with “pretzelfied” love song lyrics and handing out $5 gift cards to try the sandwiches. Some of the lucky attendees were joined by Boyz II Men themselves to take this pretzel-fueled creative process to the next level. The #PretzelLoveSongs karaoke event will be held again in select locations.
Pretzel enthusiasts can choose from Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger with honey mustard and red onions, or the Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwich with Muenster cheese, cheddar cheese sauce, lettuce, and tomatoes.
Wendy’s has also released an eclectic Spotify playlist of new and throwback love songs, because it’s 2014 and there’s no reason you can’t listen to Marvin Gaye while devouring a pretzel bun. If you’re a genuine Boyz II Men fan, keep an eye out for their new album “Collide” on September 30th.
