Here is a word , a strange word... from the BBC in Britain. In the Welsh community of Bangor they have formed the 16-strong Threnody choir to sing at funerals...
Since the primary theme is to celebrate the life of the deceased, it is not surprising that the most requested music is not Amazing Grace, but Frank Sinatra's My Way!
Threnody, which means a poem or song of mourning, is made up of members of the Bangor Community Choir, and they perform at secular funerals, as well as those with a spiritual dimension. Many such funerals are at crematoria, where there is not a tradition of choral singing.
The group leader said: "A secular funeral is solely about the person. There's no set format and their life is at the centre of it.
The choir's performance is free, but there is a cost for travelling expenses.
Are you ready for pop music, even if it's Frank, at a funeral?
