For his third win in the same number of weeks, Dan Wells tied on what has become an "old faithful" in his tackle box and claimed a victory at tonight's Mudville Bass series on the California Delta. Discussing his run of championships at the weigh-in interview, Wells confirmed, "They all came on frogs, again."
For tonight's launch out of Ladd's, Wells teamed up with Jonathon Bradford. The RB Bass fishing team landed a limit of 21.74 to take the win. Their big fish weighed in at 6.69. Aside from his claim of "just gettin' lucky", Wells explained he has been on the same area in the North Delta and it has been hot for about four weeks. His focus is shallow grass mats and nothing but frogs. More than than a specific type of frog, Wells attributes his success to proper equipment when fishing a frog. He swears by his Dobyns Champion 736, Abu Garcia 7:1 Revo SX and 65# Spiderwire Braid.
With 5-lbs separating second, the team of Lorenzo Rossetti and Alexis Kagan brought in the Big Fish winner of the night. A 7.71 kicker anchored their limit of 16.42. Feeling the excitement of her first tournament Kagan said, "It was fun netting the big fish." Rossetti reeled in the big one with a black buzzbait about two hours in; he also revealed he got two on a chatterbait and that they had bites throughout the event. "They wanted it really slow," explained Rossetti. He continued describing his key areas in about 2-feet of water, over grass beds.
The top-5 of the night;
- 21.74 Wells/Bradford
- 16.42 Rossetti/Kagan
- 15.71 Leonard/Szaba
- 13.82 Garrett/Vaughn
- 10.99 Hall/Wright
