Wellness - what does it really mean?

For most of us, wellness means simply giving our animals regular meals, a roof over their head and playtime when we are available. But wellness begins with a healthy, species appropriate diet, regular exercise and playtime. Feeding a balanced and close to natural as possible diet can extend an animal’s life greatly.

Due to their smaller organ systems, animals are much more sensitive to ‘junk’ food, and commercialized foods low in meat content and high in grain based fillers. These fillers over time build up in the animal’s body causing multitudes of health issues like obesity, heart and digestive problems, allergies, weak immune systems, kidney failure, and diabetes.

Just as important as a healthy diet is a healthy activity level, meaning daily exercise. It's easy to neglect the exercise and play needs of our pets. Beyond the impact on their physical health, too little activity creates emotional and behavioral stress for our animals.

Many of us know the relief and relaxation a massage can bring at the end of a long and busy day. The rhythmic movements of the massage recharges our body and soul and relaxed and refreshed we are ready to take on the world once again. The same is true for our four legged friends. A gentle massage of the whole body can help soothe their minds and bodies. And it helps strengthen and deepen the bond we have with our furry kids. Reiki, Acupuncture, Acupressure and other relaxation methods and tools are readily available for animals everywhere.
