Well Hung highlights local contemporary artists

Chelsea’s newest building, +aRt, is hosting yet another innovative exhibition in their ground-floor gallery, this time curated by Mint&Serf, a NYC-based artistic duo.

The show, entitled “Well Hung”, opened March 5 just in time for Armory Week, and features over 30 artists.  It encompasses multiple art forms, including photography, sculpture, painting and drawings.  The exhibition is located at 540 West 28th Street, in the so-called “Chelsea Chapter” gallery space at +aRt.  A new luxury rental building, +aRt is now trying to sell their well-designed and “curated” apartments, catering to an art-loving crowd with a sculpture yard, brilliant views of the skyline and a spot right in the heart of Chelsea.  +aRt has hosted a number of exhibitions so far in their vacant store space in the hopes of attracting new audiences and prospective clients.

“Well Hung” represents artists mainly from the New York metropolitan area, specializing in contemporary art: Samantha West, Andrew Poneros, Pablo Power, Misha Most, Kevin Bourgeois, Maripol, Skullphone, and Michael Anderson are among the many artists in the show.  The art ranges from dark and confusing photographs to playful and colorful canvases.

“Well Hung” will be on display until April 3.  Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 12 – 6pm.  A portion of any proceeds obtained from art sales will be donated to Free Arts NYC, which provides free arts programming to children from low-income families, and those who would not otherwise have the opportunity.
