Welcome Home, Anne Rice!

Anne Rice is back in more ways than one.  After traveling for “The Wolf Gift” book tour over the past two weeks, visiting Toronto, Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles, the “Queen of Facebook” is back home in the California desert where she created “Reuben Golding” and “The Wolf Gift”.

And, the reviews, good and bad, seem to be in, with good (naturally) outweighing the bad.

Here’s a brief sample:

“The Wolf Gift is vintage Anne Rice—a lushly written, gothic, violent, gory, metaphysical tale. This time, with werewolves.”

—Alexandra Alter, the Wall Street Journal

“[Rice] returns to the lushly evocative scenery and gothic atmosphere of her vampire novels with great success . . . her reimagining of a well-worn mythology is fresh and intriguing. Fans of Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series should delight in this new saga delivered in the author’s distinctive style. Part creation story, part love story, all excellent!”

“Rice weaves her trademark meditations on the role of supernatural creatures in society into an often thrilling, page-turning yarn”

 —Kristine Huntley, Booklist

“Anne Rice has done it again.  In her latest novel, The Wolf Gift, the woman who single-handedly, reinvented the vampire genre puts her formidable talent to work rewriting ‘were-wolf’ lore and in the end succeeds magnificently.”

 —Nola Cancel, Examiner

And she wouldn’t be the Anne Rice we all know and love if she didn’t take her devout fans on tour with her, anyway she could.  Thanks to Beckett, her brilliant assistant and genius videographer, we were able to track Anne through every leg of her journey and got to see and meet a lot of “The People of the Page” that we only know through their posts.  Congratulations to Georgie Pendragon and Justin Boyer, for getting to meet Mrs. Rice, personally.  It was a treat, I’m sure that left many of us jealous and hoping she’d come to our part of the world.  Well, perhaps one day.

And, thanks to her own son, Christopher Rice, a brilliant writer of his own accord, Anne was surprised and thrilled to meet Joe ManganielloAlcide Herveaux the Werewolf in HBO’s True Blood, who presented Anne with a bouquet of flowers and escorted her to her seat to begin her signing.  Again, thanks to Beckett, we got to experience the joy on Anne’s face as she held on to Joe’s arm and the look of pride from Christopher, for a plan well done.

On the page, things were a little slower without Anne’s constant supervision, but the posts still came in hot and heavy.  Naturally, many were praises for “The Wolf Gift” and posts about how excited her fans were to finally have it in their hands.

And, it wouldn’t be the Anne Rice page, if we didn’t have the everyday posts about women’s rights, the up-coming election and all the current events from the week that past.

I think we can all agree that Anne’s presence was sorely missed and we’re more than pleased that she is now home, safe and sound, in front of her rather large computer monitor, making us all feel a little like Mom’s home so we better pay attention.   The world just feels safer knowing that Anne Rice is paying attention to it and all of her “People of the Page” who just enjoy paying attention to her.  Welcome home, Anne!!!

What’s next …….
