Weird Wisconsin: 'Mineral Point Vampire'

The last week of March in 1981, was a little strange for the people who lived in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. There were reports that there was a 'vampire' that haunted the Graceland Cemetery. Yes, a 'vampire' was thought to be roaming the area! Here's the very strange story:

If that sounds strange enough, a police officer saw the Mineral Point vampire. The officer described this creature as roughly around 6ft tall and had a pure white face. He also wore a cape, so it sounds like your stereotypical vampire! Anyway this officer had chased the suspect until it jumped over a barbed-wire fence. The officer stated that he believed the suspect wasn't a vampire but just a ill man. As far as it's know the suspect was never found but it does sound like a prankster but then again it could have been something more sinister! Around the web there isn't a lot about what happened about the incident but it did happen around when Reagan's attempted assassination happened.

It's still a very weird case even if it's a prankster and one must wonder why then? Did someone believe they were really a vampire or did they just want to scare the little town? It's almost a little funny yet very weird to think about it. Either way what ever happened and why, it does make a good vampire story. It's interesting to note Mineral Point is one of Wisconsin's oldest cities and it was settled in 1827. Maybe this 'vampire' was part of the early history of Mineral Point? Next time you pass a cemetery make sure to be on the look out for a vampire!!
