A deformed pig with two heads was born in Nanchang, China recently, according the the Daily Mail, which posted a photo spread of the grotesque creature on Thursday. The animal has two snouts, two mouths, three eyes, and the capacity to make you never want to eat pork again.
It was one of 10 piglets born in the litter, whose owner said was otherwise normal, save for the one pig born with two faces. He was also quoted as saying “When it tries to suckle the milk, it hesitates about which mouth to suckle the nipples,” an image that is at once humorous and heartbreakingly sad.
“And sometimes one mouth wants to suck this nipple, while the other mouth tries another nipple, and then both failed,” he added.
The two-headed condition, known as polycephaly, results when a fertilized egg fails to successfully split in two. The condition is not uncommon in the animal kingdom, or at least among China’s pig stock; earlier this year, another polycephalic pig was born in Jiujiang. In fact, the Huffington Post reports that China and Britain recently worked out a $73.6 million trade deal for British pig semen in the hopes of improving the poor quality of Chinese pig stock. Because, as we all know, a little dash of the British will always class things up.
The introduction of the British pig semen will begin next year when four artificial insemination plants open for business, another mental image you’re just going to have to deal with for the rest of your life.
