A male nurse was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a corpse after security guards report that they caught him in the act on Sunday. According to KTLA 5 on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, the security guards at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Reseda, California held 61-year-old Alejandro Lazo until the authorities arrived.
Lazo was arrested on a state health and safety code violation after allegedly committing the act of necrophilia on a deceased body, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was released on a $20,000 bail as the investigation continues.
According to an article from the Daily Times back in 2011, “Necrophilia, a very rare and indistinct phenomenon, is a psychiatric expression for a pathological sexual attraction to corpses.” There was the case a few years ago in Karachi that got plenty of media attention world wide when a grave digger confessed to “raping” 48 dead women during a couple of months while he was on the job.
While this type of behavior is very rare, it does occur and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association also calls this disorder thanatophilia or necrolagnia. Necrophilia is classified as a paraphilia and it is considered a personality disorder, according to the Daily Times.
