While most game press sites are busy clamoring for Game of the Year nominees, or even considering the best games of the past generation, game companies have been pretty productive this week. There was nothing groundbreaking announced, but it was a steady stream of interesting stories. Stay tuned for this writer's thoughts on the best games of the year, but for now, here’s this week’s News, Games, Geeks.


  • Spike will hold their yearly Video Game Awards, now VGX, tonight at 5:45PM ET/2:45pm PT (4:45 in Minnesota, CT) and it will be hosted by Joel McHale
  • Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is $10 on PSN (until Tuesday) and Square Enix also announced the next big patch, list, will launch on December 17
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV, the next edition of the game, will launch on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in June 2014
  • Destiny will be out for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9, 2014 with a beta exclusive for the Sony consoles in the Summer
  • Disney bought the license to Indiana Jones
  • Final Fantasy VIII launched on Steam this week
  • Peggle 2 will launch on Monday, December 9, for the Xbox One
  • Telltale’s second season of The Walking Dead will launch sometime in December
  • Square Enix released a barrage of trailers for the HD remakes of Final Fantasy X/X-2
  • Some of the cast in the World of Warcraft movie has been revealed
