The Dallas Arboretum, located at 8525 Garland Road, hosts concerts overlooking White Rock Lake every Tuesday and Thursday evening this time of year. There is a variety of music offered, from this week's Journey tribute band, Frontiers, to the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and even 80's dance music. For a complete schedule, see here. Gates open at 6 pm, and the concerts begin promptly at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $9 for members, and $16 for non-members in advance. A $2 charge is added if you buy your ticket at the gate the night of the show. You can also purchase one of several different discount passes if you are planning on making this a regular outing.
Some nights there are contests, such as best 80's attire or best Rolling Stone look-alike, where both children and adults have chances to win prizes. Scouters choose three adults and three chidren under 13 as finalists on these nights. Then the audience decides who the winner will be.
Blankets to sit on are welcomed. Low-to-the ground chairs that sit no taller than 4 inches off of the ground, are also allowed. Smoking is not allowed on the the concert lawn. The only animals permitted in the area are special assistance dogs. Children should not bring balls, kites, or frisbees. Photography is not permitted during the concerts. Coolers are permissable, and it is fine to bring your own food and alcoholic beverages. No alcohol is sold on the premises though. If you don't want to bring your food with you, the Restaurant DeGolyer is open on concert nights from 5 - 8 pm, and you can eat in the restaurant, or get your food to go. The meals here range in price from $7 -11. Also the Highland Park Cafeteria has a tent set up near the stage with salads and sandwiches, priced from $5- $7.
If there happens to be inclement weather, the shows are moved inside to Rosine Hall at the Arboretum, which is near the ticket booth. If this happens, you are still welcome to bring your coolers. But, remember, space is limited when it is moved inside.
