Weekly comic book movie news roundup- 11/21

New Moon beat all midnight box office records.

While no huge news came out of Hollywood this week regarding our favorite four-color characters' jump to celluloid, there were enough little tidbits that it seemed worthwhile to gather them all together in a weekly roundup. So here we go:

Twilight

First up, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. I know that many of you are sick of hearing about these emo, sparkling vampires, and for that, I'm sorry about the news I must bear. It seems that Edward and clan toppled The Dark Knight's midnight box office take (which itself was beaten by Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince, but let's not reopen those wounds right now).

According to estimates, New Moon opened with $26.27 million, compared to Batman's $18.4. However, as of now, The Dark Knight's  single day record of $67.1 million still stands. We've all seen Batman take out plenty of vampires in the comics. There's no doubt that he can do it at the box office.

Rachel McAdams has denied the Spider-Man 4 Black Cat rumors.

Spider-Man 4

The Spidey rumors have been flying this week.

First up, Rachel McAdams has denied rumors that she is up for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in the upcoming Sam Raimi directed sequel. So, in order to fill that void, the rumor mill is now reporting that Julia Stiles, Romola Garai, and now Anne Hathaway, are up for the role. Hathaway's reps have denied that talks have been held between her and the studio. However, how many times in the past have we seen actors/actresses deny involvement in a film only to have them confirmed later. Your guess is as good as mine.

Also, another Spidey tidbit, SpoilerTV has posted a casting call for a red haired infant for the movie. Might they be going to Superman Returns route and giving our hero a kid that no one wants him to have? We'll see.

Thor

Earlier this week, Marvel EIC Joe Quesdada and writer extraordinaire Brian Michael Bendis both tweeted enthusiastically about the Thor production after a meeting with director Keneth Branagh and a tour of the under-construction sets. Here's what they said:

Quesdada: "I could listen to Branagh talk about Thor all day long. Cast is in place, sets are being built and screenplay is brilliant. Marveldom rules!"

Bendis: "Broadcasting live from marvel west. Thor movie meeting with Ken branagh was over the top amazing. Visited the sets! I was in Odin's chamber! - U should get in line for the Thor movie today. Just saying."

I'm intrigued.

And in more Thor news, Heat Vision reports that actor Idris Elba, who can soon be seen in the comic-to-film adaptation of The Losers, has just been cast as Heimdall, the guard of Asgard's BiFrost Bridge, in the flick. With all of the casting news of late, it's becoming quite obvious that this film will be very Asgard centric. What that bodes for us Midgardians, we shall see.

Iron Man 2 trailer with Sherlock Holmes?

Iron Man 2

And finally,a bit of Iron Man 2 news.

Fans have been clamoring for an actual trailer ever since the phenomenal Comicon footage. Well, director Jon Favreau may have given us a date in a tweet this week. When asked by a fan:

PLEASE tell us the trailer is coming soon - w/Sherlock Holmes, perhaps??

Favreau simply retweeted the message to all of his followers without giving an answer. However, his posting of the question leans heavily toward the idea that we will in fact get a trailer for Iron Man with the Robert Downey Jr.-starring Sherlock Holmes on December 25. Merry Christmas.

Stay tuned for more comic movie news as it develops.
