Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch finished first and second for the second-consecutive race, this time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Catch up on the rest of the weekend’s events and a big local race here.
Sprint Cup Series – Matt Kenseth won his second Chase race and seventh race of the season on Sunday in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Jamie McMurray. It was Kenseth’s 500th Cup Series start – the only other driver to win in his 500th start was Richard Petty in 1970.
Nationwide Series – Ryan Blaney was a first-time winner in the Nationwide Series Kentucky 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Austin Dillon finished second, followed by Truck Series points leader Matt Crafton, Sam Hornish Jr. and Alex Bowman.
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series – Doug Kalitta snapped a 71-race winless streak in the Top Fuel division, taking home the Wally from Texas Motorplex and the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals. Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also took home wins from Texas Motorplex.
Whelen Modified Tour – Todd Szegedy won the Whelen Modified Tour race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, ending his own winless streak at 28 races, the longest of his career. Sprint Cup Series Chaser Ryan Newman finished second, followed by Donny Lia, Bobby Santos and Orchard Park’s Patrick Emerling.
Elegant Builders Raceway Park – Matt Hirschman won the U.S. Open Race of Champions Modified Tour race on Sunday at the Lancaster track, whose popular weekend show became a one-day affair thanks to Mother Nature on Saturday. Erick Rudolph, Chuck Hossfeld, Andy Jankowiak and Daren Scherer rounded out the top five; Emerling made it back home to finish ninth. Other winners at the U.S. Open included Jankowiak (Sportsman), Mike Ramos (NYS Super Stock and Big 10 Super Stock), TJ Cochrane (Street Stock), Timex Morgan (TQ Midget), Jeremy Haudricourt (Legends) and Peter Koschuk (4 Cylinder).
