Jimmie Johnson jumped to second in Chase points, just eight points behind leader Matt Kenseth, after earning his record-setting eighth career win at Dover International Speedway. Here’s the weekend wrap-up for September 27th through 29th.
Sprint Cup Series – Jimmie Johnson bested his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, making up ground on points leader Matt Kenseth, who finished seventh. Joey Logano, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five in the third Chase race.
Nationwide Series – Logano beat rookie Kyle Larson Saturday at Dover in the 5-Hour Energy 200 benefitting Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Kevin Harvick finished third, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Brian Vickers and Elliott Sadler; Vickers was the last car on the lead lap.
Camping World Truck Series – Timothy Peters took home the victory in the Smith’s 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday ahead of Johnny Sauter. Miguel Paludo, Ty Dillon and Darrell Wallace Jr. rounded out the top five.
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series – Antron Brown (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Erica Enders-Stevens (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) took home Wallys from Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis from Sunday’s AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals, the third event in the six-race Countdown to the Championship.
