With any luck, the trend of milder and drier conditions will take us through the entire weekend. A storm moving out of the Carolinas is taking the cold air supply with it, and a new (and actually bitter) surge of Arctic air in Canada will likely not reach Houston until early on Monday. So in between now and the start of the new week, the only issue southeastern Texas could face is late night fog. Afternoon readings could get near, or even surpass, 70 degrees on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
As of now, the impressive Canadian cold dome looks to have only a glancing impact on the Bayou City. Monday and part of Tuesday could sport a chill to the air. But the harshest part of this tundra regime will be felt in places like Chicago IL and New York NY. I suspect that another strong push of colder values may reach into Texas late next week, but the most likely candidate to drop temperatures and keep the cold in place will not occur until after January 30. That air mass could have far more serious consequences.
