This weekend try something new. Stop by Lyons Wier Gallery on 7th Avenue and shop the weekend Art Bazaar. The Art Bazaar is a concept dreamt up by gallery owner Michael Lyons Wier. In short, every weekend this summer he is opening his gallery doors to any artist who is passionate about displaying, sharing, and selling his/her art.*
There is a caveat of course... The doors are only open to the first 18-20 artists who arrive with art in hand. Once the gallery is full of art, the remaining artists are told to try again next time. The whole process is totally democratic and affords artists a fantastic opportunity to show their art in a beautiful space in a highly visible part of Chelsea.
The artists are getting into it! Doors open for the installation of the weekend Art Bazaar on Saturday at 10am and in true New Yorker fashion, they are lining up several hours early to secure a spot in the weekend show. Artists have even been spotted camping out (see photos).
The excitement surrounding this weekly event is contagious and I highly recommend stopping by to experience it for yourself. All the artists displaying their work are on hand to answer questions and share stories. The energy is powerfully positive. If you don't believe me, check out some of the live streaming video of the Bazaar online or better yet, go see for yourself.
Lyons Wier Gallery is located at 175 Seventh Ave. (corner of 20th St.) and online at www.lyonswiergallery.com. Phone: (212) 242-6220
