The Ocean Running Club kicks off their 2014 Winter Series this Sunday, January 19, 2014. It is a 4 mile tree lined paved trail through Ocean County Park in Lakewood, N.J. The course is two loops and with all the pine trees provides excellent protection from the cold winter winds.
Walkers start at 10:45 a.m. and the runners take off at 11 a.m. There is no need to pre register. Just show up and register inside the pavilion at the park. After the race there are always some great refreshments and awards. The cost is only $6.00 and Ocean Running Club members are only $5.00.
Also on Sunday the Freehold Area Running Club 5K series continues in Tighe Park in Freehold.
The Jersey Shore Running Club will again be hosting runs of 3 to 10 plus miles on Sunday in Middletown.

This weekend many runners will also be commemorating Meg Cross Menzies who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while out for her morning run on January 13, 2014. As an avid runner, member of the Richmond Road Runners Club, and Boston marathoner, she was a member of the running family nationwide. In her honor many runners will be running on their own or with groups to raise awareness of drunk driving, texting and driving, and overall safety of runners and cyclists everywhere.
And here in New Jersey the search continues for David Bird a runner from Long Hill, N.J. who left his home on Saturday and never returned. .David was 2013 NYC Marathon finisher and reporter for the Wall Street Journal.
