Austin live music offerings this weekend are stock full of great local acts like Les Rav, The Couch, Lord Buffalo, My Education and Wild Child. Austin City Limits Festival veterans, North Mississippi All-Stars will stop by The Parish Saturday for titillating country-blues. The trio's Do512 Lounge Session taping a couple years ago was memorable. Most of the concerts listed below are affordable, so get out and support great, local artists this weekend.

Les Rav, Watch Out for Rockets (with David Thomas Jones) - Holy Mountain - 8 p.m.
Tonight, record producer, David Thomas Jones celebrates the release of his new EP, "Comfort Creatures" at Holy Mountain with four bands he works with; Scan Hopper, Les Rav, Watch Out for Rockets and End Wave. Les Rav led by Lauren Bruno, the waif-like singer and keyboardist is fun to watch. Jones will perform with Watch Out for Rockets. We had a listen to DTJ's electronic press kit and we are duly impressed. Set times are listed below:

Friday, February 1
The Tontons, The Couch, Emily Bell - Stubb's (inside) - 9 p.m. - $8 ($10 at door)
Houston natives, The Tontons played a sold-out New Year's Eve show with Quiet Company. The Quiet Company crew had high praise for the band. After streaming their track "Golden" we are excited to see the indie-rock act at Stubb's on Friday with The Couch. Female vocalist, Asli Omar's singing is mesmerizing.
San Marcos-bred, The Couch have made an impact on the local music scene since arriving in Austin. After memorable shows at The Mohawk and a rocking CD release at Holy Mountain, The Couch is fast becoming a favorite. Stream their new, self-titled album here. After multiple listens the album stands out as one of the better releases to come out of Austin recently.

Lord Buffalo, My Education, San Soleil, Followed by Static - Holy Mountain - 9 p.m. - $5
By now you know one of our favorite post-rock bands is My Education. Friday, the instrumentalists are joined by psych-rockers, Lord Buffalo at Holy Mountain. If you have not heard My Education's latest effort, "A Drink for All My Friends", give it a spin. You will likely play it more than once.
My Education will be performing at South By Southwest this year as well as touring Europe for the first time. San Soleil and Followed by Static support.

North Mississippi All Stars - London Souls - The Parish - 8 p.m. - $20
One of our favorite Do512 Lounge Session performers of 2011, the Grammy nominated, North Mississippi All-Stars return to Austin for a show at The Parish Saturday. Be sure to watch the video of the band's taping in the left sidebar.

"North Mississippi Allstars formed in 1996; the product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Memphis legend Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi legacy while playing and shaking it down in the juke joints with their blues ancestors. R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak, making classic records and touring the world. Eventually, Luther (guitar, vocals) and Cody (drums, vocals) formed the North Mississippi Allstars and pioneered their own brand of blues-infused rock and roll."

Wild Child, Hello Wheels, Sphynx, Whiskey Shivers - The Scoot Inn - 7 p.m. $5
The re-opened Scoot Inn hosts several good local acts Saturday with sets slated both indoors and the outdoor stage. Wild Child, Hello Wheels and Whiskey Shivers are slated as well as Sphynx who performed at the sold-out, Vivogig/Deja Set SXSW party last year with Octopus Project. Proceeds benefit Motorcycle Accident Victims in honor of Daniel Cameron.
