They draw from influences of funk, soul, rock, and reggae creating a sound that is simultaneously new and classic. The Arc Nightclub and Lounge, 835 Beacon Street, Boston (857)350-3799 will feature DJ John O'Leary and DJ Anomaly on Friday, May 16, 2014. This event is hosted by Superstition: Post-Punk and takes place every third Friday of the month at Arc. It was the late 1970's when post punk, a rock music genre emerged from the initial punk rock explosion. It is considered an artsier and more experimental form of punk. It also laid the groundwork for alternative rock by broadening the range of punk and underground music, incorporating the use of synthesizers and extensive repetition, dub music, American funk and studio experimentation into the genre. Soul Rebel Project along with Kevin William, The Dejas and Qwill will be part of an on going concert series taking place at Ames Memorial Hall, 290 Essex Street in Salem on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.

The Soul Rebel Project is a Boston based reggae rock band. The band had some early success with singles like Blood Money and Informer which received regular airplay on various college radio stations. They've also shared the stage with some of the top world reggae artists such as Mighty Mystic, Barrington Levi and Lee Scratch Perry. Also on Saturday, The Pop Gun Band will be at the Spotlight Tavern, 208 Rantoul Street, Beverly. Showtime: 9:00 p.m. Pop Gun came together in 1992 and is a three piece rock n roll band. Girls Guns and Glory will be at the Center for the Arts in Natick on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The band has been a rising star in Boston for the past eight years and has evolved from country to American music. In 2013 they took home the Boston Music Award for Americana Artist of the Year and Ward Hayden won for male vocalist of the year. The band is: Ward Hayden on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Josh Kiggans on drum kit, Chris Hersch on electric guitar, banjo and vocals and Paul Dilley on upright and electric bass and vocals. Pete's Bar and Grill, Quincy has the band Hot Like Fire on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Hot Like Fire is an authentic reggae party band who has spent the past twenty five years leaving their mark on the east coast. Led by vocalist Kelly Bolduc, this band has won two 2014 New England Urban Music Awards for Best Caribbean Band and Best Caribbean CD. They were also a three time nominee at the Boston Music Awards for Outstanding World Music Act.

A weekend long event, the 2014 Lexington Battle Green barbecue festival starts on Saturday, May 17, 2014 and ends Sunday May 18, 2014. There's a new location this year at Hastings Park but if you're putting it in to your GPS, put in 1 Lincoln Street, Lexington 02421.

This years live entertainment on Saturday includes blues and soul man David Gallagher, the classic country, honky tonk rockabilly band the Roy Sludge Trio and Boston's own five piece Chicago style blues band who play around the world, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones. Sugar Ray and his band received five 2012 Blues Music Awards from the Blues Foundation in Memphis. Sunday brings you The Suspects Band which features six vocalists, three part harmonies and a four piece horn section.
