Who said you have to spend a lot of money to have a nice vacation? A weekend getaway is the perfect way to relax without breaking the bank. It also means not wasting most of your vacation time on the drive to your destination. It’s important to find time to relax and break away from our jobs and the stress that comes with the territory. A weekend getaway is a great way for families to reconnect.

A good starting point is to find some place close to home such as the mountains, a lake, or the beach. Don’t live near one of these? Well that’s okay too. The nearest big city can also provide an exciting experience every time you visit. Check for great deals through hotels.com or Travelocity.com to find rooms at a discounted rate. So many nice hotels offer great discounts and rates simply to fill the rooms. A city is a great place to explore museums or performing arts theaters, dine at a fancy restaurant, shop at the designer stores, and find unique items from the city’s hidden gems.

If you prefer the small town atmosphere to escape from city life, check for farmer’s markets and festivals, or maybe go wine tasting at the nearest vineyard. Maybe antiquing is your passion and the next town over has the best little antique shop in the state.

For the outdoor enthusiast, look for nearby parks to find hiking trails, fishing ponds, or rivers. There is a weekend getaway for every budget all you have to do is be creative and flexible. Who knows, you may even start a family tradition with memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t be surprised if you come home feeling refreshed and revitalized. Side effects may include, and are not limited to, smiling, confidence, optimism, and encouragement. But don’t take my word for it try for yourself.
