New York City may not have the swaying palm trees of Coachella or dry summer heat quite as intense as Bonnaroo. A handful of summer music festivals still take place in Manhattan and Brooklyn, coming in and out almost every weekend.

Governor's Ball
The glitziest of NYC music festivals, Governor's Ball brags a bill wth Outkast, Jack White and Vampire Weekend at the top. The lineup buts indie giants like Foster The People, Phoenix and Spoon in smaller print. More info

New Music Seminar
At the end of the weekend, New Music Seminar will feature emerging artists inside at smaller venues like Pianos and Rockwood Music Hall. More info

Northside Festival
More than 400 bands will play over eight days at Northside in Brooklyn June 12-19. The fest's website advertises smooth indie rock/pop crooners like Chvrches and Sharon Von Etton. More info

Afropunk
The late August festival hasn't announced at 2014 lineup. Bands can still sign up for a showcase. Last year's headliners were Chuck D and Questlove. More info

Lengthier festivals include SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn, which run shows all summer long.
