School is officially back in session and, for most, life just got even busier! In between the weeknight activities and homework, it's still nice to find some weekend family fun!
If you haven't been lately, you should check out the Discovery Place. After a major remodel, the museum has re-opened exhibits and they are better than ever! A 3-D theater, IMax, many hands-on activities and much, much more make the Discovery Place a fun family destination. If you add in taking the light rail and have lunch either in the cafe on the bottom level or walking to a nearby lunch place, you can make a fun day out of a trip here.
Historic Latta Plantation is always a worthwhile trip! On September 4-5 the plantation will hold a Revolutionary War re-enactment. According to the event web site, visitors can relive the American Revolution as soldiers reenact local battles. Thour soldier camps, see living history demonstrations, visit the plantation house, and watch the main battles each day. On Saturday, soldiers will reenact the Battle of Charlotte which originally took place at the corners of Trade and Tryon Street in Charlotte. On Sunday, soldiers will reenact the Battle of McIntyre Farm which was fought just a few miles from Latta off Beatties Ford Road. Admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under free.
For free fun, the Museum of York County is free on Sundays (open from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.) and is worth the trip to Rock Hill to take the little ones for educational, hands on fun. The museum has several hands on exhibits including African artifacts, learning about the Catawba River and its lakes, a planetarium and more. It's a fun, hands on experience!
While the weeks are filled with homework and extra-curricular activities, have fun on the weekends by including family activities and destinations to balance out those over-scheduled (for the children and adults) weeks!
