This is a big weekend for dog events. Besides the usual meetings, walks, playgroups and adoptions, there are three big events happening this weekend.

MULTI DAY EVENTS

The first is the 2010 Basset Waddle. This is a three day event held May 14-16 in Birmingham, MI. If you love seeing Basset Hounds as far as the eye can see, check it out. This is a fundraiser for Michigan Basset Rescue and, of course, other breeds are welcome to walk in the waddle. In addition to the Waddle, there will be a special dinner o Friday, picnic on Saturday along with Basset Bingo and the big event on Sunday, the Waddle itself in Downtown Birmingham. Get more info at the Michigan Basset Rescue website.

If you’d rather see Greyhounds abounding, then you’ll need to head over to the GreytHounds of Eastern Michigan (GEM) Greyhound event. This year the event is also May 14-16 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2900 Jackson Road in Ann Arbor, MI. Events include an Ice Cream Social on Friday night, vendors, games and educational events on Saturday and a Blessing of the Hounds (by yours truly) on Sunday. In addition there will be adoptable Greyhounds and vendors selling all kinds of great products, an auction and raffle and more. Check it out and get more information at the GEM website.

If you just want to see all breeds of dogs as far as you can, check out the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s Annual Mutt Strut. It is also this weekend, May 15-16 in Dearborn, MI. The Mutt Strut is also a fundraiser for Dearborn Animal Shelter and features vendors, educational events, health events and, of course, the strut itself where you and your dogs can walk to help the shelter. Enjoy fun, food, and awesome pet and people activities including Ultimate Air Dogs, Flyball, Shopping at the Pet Expo, Dogie De-lur, Doggie Health Zone, Adopted Dog Birthday "Paw-ty", Bowser's Bistro, Dog Games and Contests. There will even be a Detroit Lions Meet & Greet where you can meet your favorite Lions players. Of course, there will be adoptable dogs there looking for their forever home and a Chihuaua reunion for all those who adopted Chis from the hoarding situation last year. You can get more info at the official Mutt Strut website.

And finally, Wednesday, May 19 -- Saturday, May 22, Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue is having their Charity Poker Tournament II at Electric Stick Poker Room, 6581 N Wayne Rd., Westland, MI. Daily Cash Games start at 7:00 pm each day. Games include Texas Hold'em, Fixed Limit Hold'em, Omaha, Round by Round and Black Jack. 100% of the profits raised at this event will go directory to save and care for unwanted, neglected, and abused dogs.
