This weekend, “Frozen”, which is now in its second week of release, overtook “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” to be the number one movie at the box office. The new animated Disney fairytale debuted in second behind “Catching Fire” over Thanksgiving weekend, but now their places have reversed, with “Frozen”, which is receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, making $31.6 million, and “Catching Fire” coming in close behind with $27 million (that film has been in theater for three weeks now and is still going strong).
The weekend’s only big new release, “Out of the Furnace” debuted in third, but far behind the top two movies. The thriller, which stars Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, had a less than stellar opening, grossing only $5.3 million—a disappointment, to say the least.
