Week Ahead: Nashville Symphony Chorus to hold first open rehearsals Monday

Want a little excitement in your Monday? Perfect, because the Nashville Symphony Chorus is holding open rehearsals and a public Question and Answer session, held by Chorus Director Kelly Corcoran and several of the group's singers, for the first time ever. The event will take place on Monday, April 14 at Laura Turner Concert Hall at the el grande Schermerhorn Symphony Center right in downtown Nashville.

Just as the Chorus is celebrating its 50th season and for the very first time in that half a century, the public is cordially invited to experience a rehearsal of Brahms' German Requiem and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in preparation of Nashville Symphony's season finale, which will be presented on May 29-31.

A Nashville landmark and tradition, the all-volunteer Chorus was originally formed in 1963 and out of its current 205 members, an astounding 12 members have been with the Chorus for at least 25 years; thats a quarter of a century. Think that's impressive? Listen to this: Richard Hatfield has been performing with this amazing choral group since its inception half a century ago. Now that is commitment. Bravo to Mr. Hatfield.

Monday's open rehearsal and Q&A session afterwards is only one of several events the group has planned to commemorate their achievement of a long-standing 50 year history. The events include a guest appearance with the Cincinnati Symphony May 17 at the Cincinnati May Festival, and event considered by most as America's premier choral festival.

Bravo and a long-standing ovation to the Nashville Symphony Chorus.
