The fun has begun! League play has started in CIF-SS football and that means the crowds are a little louder and the games are a lot more meaningful.
Here's a look at some of the more interesting games on tap this week…
Villa Park (5-1, 2-0) vs El Dorado (4-3, 3-0), at Valencia High School, October 11 at 7 p.m.
If the G-Hawks tighten up on defense and QB Cory Wildhagen launches a few, this game could be close.
For the Spartans, keep an eye on senior running back, Meki Tafuna, who is averaging 100-yards a game and has 11 touchdowns.
Los Amigos (4-2, 1-0) at Garden Grove (4-2, 1-0), October 11, 7 p.m.
It's all even in the Garden Grove League, so expect a packed (and rowdy) crowd.
After a few early season stumbles, Los Lobos have seemed to right their ship. It'll be interesting to see how many points they put up on the board against this shaky Argo defense.
Katella (4-2, 1-0) vs. Santa Ana Valley (4-2, 1-0) at Western High School, October 11 at 7 p.m.
All eyes will be on Knights running back, Tj Ashmeade. The junior has 623 rushing yards this season.
As for the Falcons, the guys to watch are QB Joe Mohr and double threat specialist, Alex Hernandez.
Los Alamitos (5-1, 1-0) vs. Edison (5-1, 1-0) at Veterans Stadium Long Beach, October 12, 7 p.m.
O.C. represents in the LBC! The Chargers' dynamite defense go up against the Griffins' wicked offense in what is sure to be the game of the week – if not the season.
With Los Al's propensity for lopsided wins this season and their comfort level at The Vet, they have a good shot at staking their claim atop the Sunset League – For this week anyway.
Santa Margarita (6-0, 1-0) vs. Mater Dei (5-1, 1-0) at Saddleback College, October 12, 7:30 p.m.
After putting on a royal 21-0 thumping against Servite last week, Santa Margarita are flying high, so now it’s up to Mater Dei to bring the Eagles back down to earth. To do that, The Monarchs need to do what they did against John Bosco last week and score early and often.
Oh, and just in case you’ve never been to one of these Saddleback Trinity League beat-downs, get there early!
