Five of this week's Associated Press top ten teams were off in week ten (the week ending November 3, 2013.) They were all luckily taking a week off in preparation for a big game this week. The Alabama Crimson Tide were off last week and are facing new number ten, SEC member LSU. The Louisiana State University Tigers were also off last week to get ready for their big game. The Oregon Ducks were off last week as they are preparing for a Pac-12 game against the Stanford Cardinal who were also in a bye week. The number five Baylor Bears were off last week as they are preparing for a Big 12 game against the Oklahoma Sooners this week.
In top ten teams that played last week here's what transpired. Florida State beat the Miami Hurricanes in an all-Florida Atlantic Coast Conference game, 41-14. In a Big 10 game the Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Purdue Boilermakers resoundingly, 56-0. Ouch. In an SEC game the Auburn Tigers beat the Arkansas Razorbacks, 35-17. In an Atlantic Coast Conference game the Clemson Tigers beat the Virginia Cavaliers, 59-10. In another SEC game the Missouri Tigers beat the Tennessee Volunteers, 31-3.
I did note that Tigers occupy the 7-10 spots but some people would tell you that Bayou Tigers and Missouri Tigers are two different tigers. Do they have tigers in the Bayous. Yikes! In a further mascot analysis there is a tree-- the Ohio State Buckeyes-- and a Bear from Baylor. Stay away from that tree bear. An Indian tribe is represented by the Seminoles of Florida State. The Stanford Cardinal are interesting because their mascot is a tree of an unidentified species that runs around the field like no normal tree. Oregon is of course represented on the field by a Disney-looking duck named Puddles. Their nearby rival (Oregon State University) is sometimes confused with the University of Oregon and are of course called the Oregon State Beavers. Oww. Despite these names, though, both of Oregon's big college teams have spent time in the AP top 25 this year.
Here's the Associated Press top ten which was released this morning, November 4, 2013.
