Weego brings beer in Super Bowl commercial: ‘Rescue Dog’ helps pups (video)

The dogs of Hollywood have tugged on the hearts of America. First it was Uggie in The Artist and now on Super Bowl Sunday it is Weego, the beer fetching hound in Rescue Dog. While some of the Super Bowl commercials seen during the big NFL game were strictly for selling product, Weego was also promoting helping rescue animals.

The Super Bowl commercial was based on the premise that when a phrase was said the dog would go fetch a bottle of brew. Uniquely done, the dog is a professional performer in real life and the tricks seem on Sunday definitely aren’t his first. According to the Bud Light Facebook page the dog has a professional career in front of the cameras.

“Thanks to Weego's natural talents and the skills of his trainer, this pup has had a remarkable journey from rescue dog to lead role with the premier advertiser on the world's largest advertising stage of the year,” reads the page about Weego’s upbringing. “Weego's shelter and owner played a critical role in his story. In celebration of his humble beginnings, Bud Light is joining forces with Weego to make a donation to help these animals in need and those that make animal rescue possible.”

While the commercial is cute, there is another way people can get involved in making the world a better place for adopting dogs. The Bud Light folks are donating a buck for everyone who watches the Super Bowl commercial and then heads over to the Facebook Page and likes the campaign. The cash will go to Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation.
